2025-2026 Winter Weather Plans

2025-2026 Winter Weather Plans

As colder weather settles in, Penn-Delco is sharing our annual reminder about procedures for weather-related school closures, delayed openings, and Flexible Instruction Days. While winter storms can be unpredictable, having a clear plan helps minimize disruptions for students, staff, and families.

Our Approach

First Two Inclement Weather Days:
Traditional snow days with no online learning expectations - a chance for students to enjoy the day.

Additional Weather Closures:
Closures beyond the first two will shift to Flexible Instruction Days, with students logging in from home. This approach helps avoid extending the school year while still supporting meaningful learning.

How Weather Decisions Are Made

  • Conditions are monitored as early as 4:30 a.m.
  • Decisions to delay or close are typically made by 5:30 a.m., with notifications sent by 6:00 a.m.
  • If severe weather is certain, closures may be announced the evening before.

Notifications

Families and staff will be notified through:

  • Phone call, email, and text (text “Y” to 67587 to opt in)
  • District website: www.pdsd.org
  • Social media: Facebook (@PennDelcoSchoolDistrict) and Instagram (@penndelcoproud, @pdsdsupt)

Schools open two hours later than usual (no breakfast served).

Early Dismissals:
Before lunch:

  • Sun Valley: 10:45 a.m.

Schedules and expectations are available at www.pdsd.org/flex.

Online Access

Before an anticipated storm, students will be sent home with their district-issued Chromebook or iPad to ensure they can access online learning if needed.

Penn-Delco prioritizes student and staff safety in every weather-related decision. Thank you for your support as we prepare for the winter season.
