Coebourn Students Shining Through The Leader in Me Program

We're thrilled to update you on the great work our students and staff are doing through The Leader in Me program! This initiative, built around Stephen Covey's 7 Habits, is helping us to continue to cultivate a positive culture and equip every student with vital leadership and life skills.

Our students are actively learning to apply the Habits to their daily lives and academics:

  • "Begin with the End in Mind": Setting clear personal and academic goals.
  • "Put First Things First": Learning to prioritize tasks and manage their time effectively.
  • "Think Win-Win": Developing skills in collaboration and seeking mutually beneficial solutions.

This approach empowers students, allowing them to take on leadership roles and manage their own learning as part of our focus on the whole child.

By embracing these skills, students are seeing clear improvements:

  • Improved Academics: Students boost their academic growth through better goal-setting and organization.
  • Better Behavior: Increased confidence and self-management are leading to a reduction in behavior incidents.
  • Essential Life Skills: Students are gaining crucial 21st-century skills like communication, collaboration, and personal responsibility.

It is a "marathon, not a sprint," and our staff is dedicated to this effort. Three Action Teams are driving specific goals:

  • Culture Team: They are fostering a positive environment with enhancing Leader In Me decor and have coordinated the upcoming YoJo Bullying Assembly for Bullying Prevention Month (thank you, PTL, for the funding!).
  • Leadership Team: This team is creating opportunities for students to lead, including 2nd graders giving the morning weather report and organizing Service Learning projects, such as the Pink Out day to support United for Her.
  • Academic Team: Our school-wide Wildly Important Goal (WIG) is focused on improving Math assessment scores. We're excited to highlight a PSSA Math goal where an adult from school will do something wacky if the students achieve their target!

We look forward to sharing more about our students' journey as leaders throughout the school year!
